High Protein Low Carbohydrate Diets - How To Still Get Enough Fiber

One of the big problems with high protein low carbohydrate diets is the lack of fiber, or so you would think. There are basically two types of fiber, soluble and insoluble.

Insoluble fiber is the kind you get from cereal and wholemeal breads. It is the kind of fiber that cannot be broken down and ingested by your body, This sort of fiber literally scrapes your bowels as it makes its way out of your body, cleaning them as it goes. It is responsible for moving bulk through the intestines and helps maintain pH balance in the intestines and bowels.

Soluble fiber is entirely different and believed to be far superior. It helps remove bulk through the intestines in less time, maintains pH balance in the intestines and bowels and is believed to help ward off certain types of cancer. It is contained in food such as green veg, fruit, oat products.

Remember that as a type 2 diabetic you should be watching your carb intake and getting most of your fiber from cereals and wheat products only serves to push up your blood sugar levels.
Not so with green veg, you can have as much as you like and you will still be getting adequate and superior forms of fiber in your diet.
